Creative Photography
Creative Photography implies creation of new compositions by modifying the real situation in an obvious approach. This genre of photography stresses the modification of reality. The photographer mixes the situation and the concept he/she desires to portray and allows the photo to speak something.
- A bowl containing fruits is a simple object. However, if it is correctly lit, shot and edited, it becomes an object of beauty
- The photographer should test his/her composition, lighting and editing skills and whether they would result in believable artificial realities. For example, placing a person in a soda bottle or have somebody floating on a candy lifesaver
- The photographer may take photos of various recipes and print a cookbook of the favorites
- Photos for purpose of insurance are very important. The photographer shoots all objects of value in the house along with a photo of the identification of the object (like serial number or manufacturer model). These photos can be burned on a CD and stored
- Use close-up magnification and attempt to convert salt crystals to dreamlike imagery
- Use close-up attachment or a macro lens to capture details of stamps or coins or flowers
- The photographer can attach the SLR (Single lens reflex) camera to a telescope. There will a need of some adapters. Now, it is feasible to view the depths of time and space. For really long shots, the photographer must be capable to compensate for the earth's rotation. It is advisable to begin from the moon
- During the night, the objects look very different. It is possible to create some interesting images while shooting city scenes
Relation between Shutter Speed and Creative Photography
A fast shutter speed freezes the movement. Anything more than 1/500th of a second can be regarded as a fast shutter speed. However, modern cameras like a digital SLR can result in shutter speeds up to 1/8,000th of a second. The previous sentence implies that the shutter opens for only 1/8,000th of a second. The photographer is expected to use this small duration to capture the object.
Along with fast shutter speeds, if there is high ISO and good light, the results are remarkable without the purchase of expensive lenses.
If there is a slow shutter speed, then any object that moves will cause a blurred photo. All the objects that are stationary would remain in the focus. This blur can be used to have a creative effect.
Let us consider that you are shooting a moving car. Then, select a slow shutter speed. This must be accompanied by 'panning'. Panning implies moving with the subject as it moves. Then, using panning the photographer must move from left to right and press the shutter button when the car is exactly in front of him/her. Now, the car will remain in focus in the photo while the background would be blurred.
