Family Photography
Family Photography can be understood by considering the following cases separately.
- Couples or Parents
- Solely, the children
- One Adult and One Child
- Group Family
Family Photography of Couples
- The female partner should lean in towards the male partner and simultaneously look in the direction of the camera
- The male partner must look towards the female in an adoring and calm way
- The 2 points mentioned above results in depiction of a bond between the couple to an extent that would not be attained if both look at the camera
- Some time may be required to complete the 2 points mentioned above, but it is certainly worth the time
Family Photography of Children
- It is essential to determine what the children like to indulge in
- For example, children like to play. So, when they are busy playing, the photographer must capture the natural smiles on their faces. Such images portray the blissfulness of childhood
- The above techniques demands shooting at a quicker shutter speed
One Adult along with One Child
- The photographer must ask the above 2 individuals to look towards one other while laughing and smiling
- A direct eye contact between these 2 depicts a bond between them. It is also a symbol of closeness between the child and the adult
- In case of infants, the baby must be sleeping while the photographer takes the shot
- The adult must hold the baby below chest level and have a caring expression while looking towards the infant
Shooting the family as a Group
- It is assumed that there are 3 to 5 individuals
- Individuals with less height must be placed at the front and those with more height must be at the back
- A diamond position is preferable to a square one
- Closeness between the individuals can be portrayed if hands are placed on shoulders
- One more method is to find out an activity that all the family members like and take the image during this activity. For example, during a campfire setting
Tips for Family Photography
- The individuals must stand in such a manner that one shoulder is close to the camera. This makes them appear slimmer
- When the heads of the individuals are arranged in a triangle, this results in more visual appeal
- Advice kids of all ages to place their hands in the pockets, women to rest their hands on their laps and men to fold their arms
- If the heads are pointed downwards or tilted away from the individual adjacent to a person, this appears as if the person in such a position is not part of the group
- When there are grandparents and children, the photographer must aim at an efficient juxtapose of age and youth. For this, the grandparents must sit down and the children must be placed randomly around them
- If the photographer says 'cheese', the following takes place
- The members stiffen up
- The members stare blankly towards the camera
- The members pose artificial smiles
So, the photographer must remember to take photos at random intervals
