Photography Tips
- There must not be much space from the top of the frame up to the top of the subject's head
- The subject should be more prominent than the background
- The closer the photographer can get to the subject, the better he/she can capture the emotions of the face
- Lighting can have a considerable impact on otherwise identical photos. For example, a landscape can be best shot at 12 noon, but this time is not suitable for a portrait. For a portrait, the best time is late afternoon prior to sunset
- A photographer must always refer to travel and photography magazines. He/She must attempt to imitate the positive aspects he/she finds in such photos
Basic Photography Tips
- An image is beautiful if it is proportionate. The Rule of Thirds increases interest and variety. As per this rule, the frame is akin to a Tic Tac Toe Board i.e. it is divided, horizontally and vertically, into thirds. Then, the subject of the photo is placed on one of the intersections. Keep in mind that if the subject is always at the center, the photos look dull
- An important attribute of good photos is depth. The viewer must not feel that he/she is viewing a flat picture but a 3 dimensional one. For example, while shooting a mountain, add a tree or person. A wide angle lens is recommended to enhance this logic
- Use both hands to hold the camera and rest the elbows on the chest. This is intended to hold the camera steady and prevent 'camera shake'
- The Sun must be behind the photographer and to one side. Such a front lighting results in shades and colors. The side lighting causes some shadow and this brings out the form and texture
- If you aim to portray the sweep of the mountains, use the horizontal format. In order to emphasize height, use the vertical format
- The viewer enjoys the photographs of rocks and landscapes, but only these are dull to view. It is recommended to include a human being to sustain interest. If essential, include self by a self timer
- There must be a variety in the photos like bad climate and good climate, wide angles and close ups, people shots and landscapes
- Personal shots enable to remember that you have been at a particular spot. For example, hiking or street signposts, transportation, campsite, hotel or friends you meet at a specific place must be included
General Tips for Photography
- A shot can be ruined by messy or cluttered backgrounds. For examples, it sometimes appears that branches are growing on the heads of the subjects
- Lying down on the ground or kneeling or bending on the ground can add a new dimension to mediocre photos. If the photographer crouches down and shoots low, the photos would certainly be impressive
- It is advisable that the photographer has some fun with the subject. He/she must utilize the full range of zoom and apply every possible angle while moving with the subject. Unknowingly, this can result in very impressive images
- When a photographer selects a subject, he/she must ponder a minute about the style of shooting it. For example, in case of a pink cake, the color is most vital element. Some other subject would look brilliant in black and white
- It is recommended that a photographer carries a compact camera or camera phone all the time. This would be helpful to capture some unique, special or astonishing moments
