Techniques of Photography

When radiant energy and particularly light acts on a sensitive surface like a CCD(Charge Coupled Device) chip or a film, images are produced. This process is termed as Photography.

Those who attempt photography get too much involved in the technical aspects of shooting. It is obvious that one should have a good understanding of how to execute the shooting equipment. However, photographers hide behind the camera instead of becoming one with it. It must be kept in mind that the camera is simply a housing unit.

The gist is that the photographer must have an eye to shoot phenomenal images. The first step is to digest the discipline and craft of this art. Eventually, the photographer has to let it go and develop an impulse to arrest the moment.

Let us consider a simple example. If we analyze the work of past photographers and obtain the same lighting gear, clothing, studio and talent and shoot a photo, the resultant image would be different from the old work. The secret is that your eye has viewed the ambience differently from the past photographer. It must be borne in mind that your eye would view any given situation different from another eye. In a nutshell, what is most crucial is to develop your eye.

The former are those who have an abundance of technical knowledge. The latter are those whose work results in memorable photographs and they leave a legacy behind.

They push across the edges of the ordinary and move towards the world which is the home of infinite possibilities.

Evolution of the Photographic Process

In the past, a negative film was treated with chemicals and exposed to light. This reproduced an image on the photographic paper. This is the traditional process.

Presently, digital cameras are used. The images can be loaded on a laptop or personal computer. Further, computer software (like Photoshop) is used to manipulate them and print them on a digital printer. The current method has two advantages.
