Wedding Photography Tips for the Photographer
- Prior to the wedding day, the photographer must ask the couple to provide a general idea regarding which shots they would like to capture. Then, the photographer must prepare a list of these shots and act accordingly
- The photographer must request the couple to select a family member (one for each family) who can gather all members for a family photo and assist in the family shots
- On the wedding day, before the actual ceremony begins, the photographer must visit the various locations and gauge how the light comes into play. It is also advisable to take a few test shots
- The photographer must have the memory cards made blank and the batteries charged. He/She must obtain an itinerary of the entire program and plan regarding the routes and time to reach the various locations
- He/She must turn the sound on the camera off during the entire wedding
- The photographer must keep in mind to capture small details like table settings, flowers, shoes, backs of dresses and menus
- He/She must have 2 cameras fitted with different lenses. There should be a wide angle lens (for shooting in tight places) and a longer lens (as large as 200 mm)
- The photographer must keep in mind that timing is everything. He/She must think ahead to settle in the correct position to capture the key moments
- While shooting the formal shots, the photographer must know what is required and should demand it from the couple and other members. He/She must know that he/she is the driver of the day and must ensure that things are moving
- If there is permission to use a flash, decide whether bouncing the flash would produce the results. The other option is to purchase a flash diffuser to soften the light. When a flash is not permitted, the solution is to use a lens at wide apertures
- Several photographers carry a laptop to the reception and upload the photos taken during the day so that during the evening, the guests can view the slideshow. This enhances the fun factor of the night
- A majority of shots would be formal poses. However, the photographer should ascertain to take at least some shots at wide angles, up high and down low. This adds to the creativity of the album
Wedding Photography Tips for the Bride
- The bride must relax, let go and ensure fun on the wedding day. This would certainly transform to beautiful photos
- Prior to hiring a photographer, the bride must ascertain that she can connect with the personality, style and work of this person
- The optimum light is available just after sunrise and just before sunset. This is termed as 'magic light'
- The bride must keep in mind to have restraint over the posed group shots. This leaves more time for the photographer to capture her candid shots, frank moments with the guests and those along with the groom
- The bride must check her makeup both indoors and in natural light and take care that it is not too heavy. It is recommended that the makeup should be natural, clean and light
